This page explains how to mod your stuff.

Modding modifies your weapons and Warframes and makes them stronger. When modding a Warframe, you need to know for which ability you’ll be building it.

For examample:

Rhimos Iron skin scales with armor and ability strenght, which means, you need mods, that increas armor and ability strenght.

Most weapons will focus on critical damage, when their critical chance is high. For Steelpath, you want to focus on slash, because slash ignores any type of defense (except overguard and shields).
